The beauty of an abstract painting is for each of us to see or better to “feel” something different. The artist accomplished all of it in this provocative painting.

The act of painting is a meditative process allowing me to leave my head and step into a deeper, intuitive space. It is about being in the ‘now’ consciously suspending judgment and self-criticism.  Trusting the colors and the canvas to guide me as I open the door to freely express myself.

About Me

I am an expressive abstract artist. I grew up in southern Connecticut with easy access to New York City with all its artistic and cultural influences. I specialize in colorful and emotionally rich expressionist paintings using acrylics and mixed media.

My paintings are about the harmony of colors and the feelings that they provoke. To me, colors have a language. They speak to one another. My process is to create a dance of colors that foster a sense of intimacy and wonder for the viewer. By painting in a non-representational way it allows the viewer to bring their personal experiences and interpretations to the canvas. The painting then becomes theirs not mine.

I have attended abstract painting retreats and workshops. I painted with a small group of abstract artists every week under the guidance of a mentor for a number of years. I was a member of the Experimental Group at the Rockport Art Museum and have been juried into numerous shows. I had the opportunity to do a residency at the Vermont Studio Center, the largest international artists’ and writers’ residency program in the United States. I later was one of 35 artists selected by the Vermont Studio Center to be part of the 35th Anniversary Vermont Alumnx Exhibition. I was chosen by ‘All She Makes’ to be part of their international curated gallery of women artists.

My father, George Loh, was an illustrator and fine artist. He is well known for his full-page sports figures in Sports Illustrated. He was honored by The Library of Congress for his illustrations in the book, The Allagash, as part of The Rivers of America Series. Although those are meaningful accomplishments, what matters to me is that I was blessed to have been brought up in an environment that resonated with his aesthetic and his love for the natural beauty in the world. As I write this, I sit in his studio chair at his drawing table. This foundation has afforded me the opportunity to become fully expressed as an abstract artist.
